Runaway Slaves

Today I discovered a great American who is doing his part to educate and free his "segment" of society. I put the word segment in quotations because we define our culture in terms of groups based on race and economic status which is a problem in and of itself; however, that is a discussion for another time. C.L. Bryant is a Baptist minister and was the president of a local NAACP chapter in Texas. His mission is to wake up black Americans to the situation they find themselves in, which he believes is the equivalent of modern day slavery. Now that is a bold statement, but C.L. doesn't stop there, he claims that if other "segments" of American society don't rise up and answer his call soon, that we will all be in the same boat: as slaves to an oppressive, tyrannical government.

Reverend Bryant has created a film titled, Runaway Slave: Run from Tyranny to Liberty. This movie is his attempt to open the eyes of Americans to the plights that we have, to a large extent, brought on ourselves, and from the five minute trailer I think that he has done a pretty good job. The trailer, which can be found on C.L.'s website for Runaway, takes aim at the people who are responsible for voting away their power to corrupt politicians. The movie explains why this has happened, what impact this voting record has had on people (mostly black Americans), and what we all can do to reverse the damage that has been done. Watch the trailer, it can also be found on YouTube, and let us know what you all think about Rev. C.L. Bryant and his mission.

  1. I think one of my more favorite moments in the trailer was the more or less fact that the black community needs people to step up and confront their people, because if anyone else were to do so, they'd get labeled racist. I don't believe it however stops there. Living in metro Detroit I see a great deal of people living this same life style that's being openly handed out. Single mom's hanging onto welfare instead of moving up with a job and/or getting married and so on because they'll lose the government bucks. As well as the other things noted.
It really feels as though its turned into some sort of cultural thing for the people that end up in those situations like that. A nearly whole community gets stuck into something like this and it just breeds it. Should the government help the needy? sure, if you can help someone, it's only the right thing to do, but at some point government stopped really caring about the "lets get them back on their feet and off this baby bottle." process. Looking at it from their point of view I can see why, it's a well oiled machine so to speak, where you don't have to do much more than set aside the cash, and let the fish eat it. And without people really doing something of some sort to really start the wheel turning, it'll just stay that way.
A prominent problem here is unemployment. There were so many people riding it for so long during the "prosperous" times in Michigan, that when the real crises of the auto industry came about, it was too late for those folks that lost their jobs, the unemployment cash was largely spoken for. Hearing someone joke about "herrr derp I gotta go pick up my unemployment check tomorrow hehe." Ticks me off when just earlier I saw a 40 something year old man go into mcdonalds for an job application. Sure he's doing the right and valiant thing of trying to secure some income, but at the same time, who needs it more? The deadbeat or that Father that just got screwed by GM/Chrysler/Ford?
Long winded but you asked for comments :P I definitely think that documentary is going to be something. Looking forward to it.

  2. Hey I definatly agree with you on the fact that it is basically a machine and that almost a whole demographic is bred into that situation. And the sad fact is that if anyone of another race was to try and help, then they would be labeled a racist. Once the economy gets back on it's feet then it is time to start thinking about how to reduce and eventually elminate the need for the welfare system-no matter how good the economy may be there will always be people who will gladly take a handout and as long as the government is given money to hand out they will do it, to the detriment of everyone. It was never the intent of the people who voted for welfare to have the government become a slave master, but when we have politicians who see welfare as a system to use and help get them reelected then they will exploit it and the people on it.
